Forever Young

Reading level: Ages 9-12
Published: September 23, 2008

Since it first appeared on the 1974 album Planet Waves, "Forever Young" has been one of Bob Dylan's most beloved songs. It is now presented in this book by award-winning illustrator Paul Rogers. This is the first of Dylan's books for children, a story about a young boy receiving his first guitar and how he grows up playing it.

The back of the book tells a bit about Bob Dylan's life and the author goes thru each illustration and points out the meaning behind some of the details on each page. He also says that if we listen to Dylan's music, we will discover more information creatively tucked away into each page. This allows for discovery and learning (for a bit older child).

Man Gave Names to All the Animals

Reading level: Ages 4-8
Published: September 7, 2010

In 2010, Bod Dylan published his second children's book titled "Man Gave Names To All The Animals". This book was illustrated by British illustrator Jim Arnosky. It tells the story of a man who names all the animals in the world and how they live together peacefully.

Visual imagery from Bob Dylan's 1979 album, Slow Train Coming, This book comes with a CD.

Bob must appreciate the illustrations in this book. My nieces and nephews do. We get a kick out of listening to the song on the CD and reading the text along with it. The drawings are appealing and only a bit bizarre. Gives the kids an antidote to Berenstain Bears.
Grown ups would like this books, too.

Bob Dylan's lesser-known song is illustrated here as a charming ode to a carefree childhood. Illustrator Scott Campbell celebrates the freedom and creativity of childhood in this quirky, spirited illustration.

A girl and her younger brother wander through their day, have adventures on the playground, make mischief at a swamp, and gaze at the night sky. Along the way, more and more dogs join their play...sweet, simple concept...humorous watercolor illustrations.-- "School Library Journal, November 2013"

The lyrics to Dylan's 1970 song "If Not for You" are the text. and David Walker did an excellent job of adapting Dylan's song for children

Gave this as I retired to a supportive admin assistant who is a lovely gentle soul who is also a huge Bob Dylan fan. She loved it and its message. She will read it to her grandchildren. I received similar children’s books with important messages when my adult son died. These kinds of gifts are appreciated.
