Dolly Parton is seriously involved in getting young children to read. She has even created a foundation (Dollywood Foundation) that gives away free books to children under 5 years old.
Please go to the website www.dollysimaginationlibrary.com to see how your child can get a free book each month, and how your community can get involved. The child has to live in a community that participates in the program. (Canada, USA and United Kingdom)
Here are two books for children that Dolly Parton had wrote herself :
Coat of Many Colors
Reading level: Ages 4-8
Published : first published January 1st 1994
The text comes directly from Parton's autobiographical hit country and western song of the same name.
Here is a sweet review from a reader at Amazon :
I used this book in my fourth grade Reading class and they loved it! One boy who has a hard time keeping interested perked up when he heard who the author was because he had visited Dollywood. Another girl went home and wrote Dolly an email to find out if she still has the coat! A good book about character.

"This eye-catching picture book is all Dolly: big, bright, and shiny on the outside, sweet as Southern tea on the inside...sure to be appreciated at storytime." --School Library Journal
